TOP 5 ADVERTISEMENTS

This Girl Can
This advertisement is one of my top 5 because of the way in which it inspires women to get up and do more. As we grow older we tend to slack when it comes to keeping ourselves fit or doing what we enjoy most thats either because we are too busy working or because we think that we are too old to be performing in sports. This advert tackles age , ethnicity , gender and disability discrimination. Thats what makes it so eye-catching and inspirational especially as this adverts reveals women performing in male dominated sports such as boxing or rugby. women participating in male dominated sports is rarely shown on television and if it is shown on that platform , its shown on a not very well known channel. What makes the 'This Girl Can' advert so powerful is the narrator: Maya Anglou. Maya Anglou was an american civil rights activist and poet who is  most famous for her poem 'Phenomenal Woman'.

Levi Roots Reggae Reggae sauce
This advertisement is another one out of my top 5 because of the way it appeals to all age groups. Many adverts especially those referring to cooking appeals to the parents/adults only. The use of cartoon characters attracts the younger audience from ages 4 and upwards and the use of bubbly music draws adults towards the advertisement. This denotes that both men and women would be interested in this advert because it does not single out a certain gender usually cooking is stereotyped with women but the fact he is using a barbecue in the video makes it more appealing to men. Another thing that attracts me to this advertisement is that the actual owner of the company also sings in the video and has a cartoon character made after him. Even if you don't remember what the sauce looks like when shopping you will always remember Levi Root's face because it on all advertisement, products and leaflets.

Jamaican Patty Company
The reason this advertisement is in one of my top 5 advertisements is because it is the most memorable. The tune in this advert is very catchy and easy to memorise. Once again this advert is all inclusive (appeals to every single age group) its the type of advert you sit and watch with family. Not only does this advert engage little children aged 3 years-15 years old through the use of dancing food products but it also engages adults with the catchy song in the background. The only problem with this advertisement is that you will only hear and see this advert in the Caribbean as it is not a mainstream Caribbean product and has to be imported. I saw this advertisement when I was in St.Lucia in 2012 and since then I have never been able to forget it. It is one of them advertisements that you remember and start to sing the tune as soon as you see the product.

Tropical Sun
This advertisement promotes family togetherness and the exoticness of the caribbean islands. Tropical sun is a world known company especially famous for its seasonings. This advertisement is made especially at adults aged 19-60 years old as those are the ones cooking with the sauces but can also be aimed at children (aged 5 years+) because in the advert children are using the sauces to dip their food into it. The beginning of the advert is very interesting and engaging because you would expect the advertisement to be about music when you see a little boy playing a guitar. Music takes up a big role in the history of the caribbean islands. The caribbean islands have produced world known artist such as Bob Marley. This advertisement is one of my top 5 advertisement because of the way it is aimed at the whole family and not a particular gender nor age group, its very universal.

Dairy Milk
The advertisement appeals to ages 6 years and older. The reason for this is that some little children may find the gorilla playing drums in the advertisement scary because of the amount of detail used to make the costume look realistic. The way it makes its target audience feel is a mixture of emotions some may find the advertisement weird and some may find the advertisement funny. The advertisement was shown especially in the afternoon when kids would be finished school because at is aimed at children and adults. The adult was purposely made to be different from the rest of Cadburys products advertisement so children would ask their parents to purchase the product just because they remember the advertisement. The advertisement is not aimed at a particular gender it is very universal.

To evaluate my blog post on my top 5 favourite advertisements I will start by talking about what exactly draws me towards these adverts as a whole. One thing that all of these advertisements have in common is that they all appeal to both adults and children so not only are these my favorite websites but they are also a family favourite. The adverts I have chosen not only attract me because of how they are structured to gain the attention of their audiences but the way in which black families , women and the Caribbean islands are represented is in such a way that reflects them positively. It is rare to see a black family portrayed in a positive way within the advertisement industry on the media sector of television hence the reason this stands out to me.
